Leptis Magna

Leptis Magna is one of the best preserved ruins of an ancient Roman Empire. Septimus Severus, who later became the Roman emperor was born there. He enlarged and embellished  the town. It was considered one of the most beautiful cities of the Roman Empire. The oldest remaining monuments date back to the times of emperor Augustus. Today one can admire its imposing public monuments, market place and residential districts. Since the year  1982 Leptis Magna has been a  UNESCO world heritage site.
